Hypnotherapy

A one-to-one guided practice using focused attention, imagery and suggestion to explore patterns, perspective and the goals you want to move toward.

What the experience is

Focused, collaborative and still entirely yours.

You remain involved

Hypnotherapy is not about giving up control. The practitioner guides the process while you remain an active participant in the experience.

Begin with intention

The session starts with what you would like to explore, shift or better understand rather than forcing a predetermined agenda.

One-to-one care

Although operationally listed with our classes and mind-body offerings, hypnotherapy at Chi is an individual session.

Potential benefits

What this practice may offer.

  • May help some people work with focused attention, imagery and suggestion toward personal goals
  • Has evidence in specific clinical applications such as gut-directed hypnotherapy for IBS
  • Research also suggests possible benefit for some pain conditions; evidence for procedure-related anxiety is promising but not conclusive

What guests often describe

People often seek hypnotherapy when they want to work with habits, patterns, confidence or personal goals in a focused way. Clients may describe greater clarity, a fresh perspective or feeling more able to access thoughts and responses that are difficult to reach through ordinary conversation alone.

What the research says

Evidence snapshot: Hypnosis has a meaningful but condition-specific evidence base. NCCIH reports evidence for gut-directed hypnotherapy in IBS and a growing body of evidence for some painful conditions, while findings for anxiety and several other uses remain inconclusive. The evidence for a specialized clinical protocol should not be assumed to apply to every form of hypnotherapy.
