The North Wind and the Sun

September 26, 2026 · chiadmin

The North Wind and the Sun once disagreed over which of them was stronger. Spotting a traveler wrapped in a cloak, they decided that whoever could persuade him to remove it would settle the question.

The Wind went first. It blew harder and harder, but the more force it used, the more tightly the traveler wrapped the cloak around himself.

Then the Sun offered warmth. Gradually, the traveler relaxed. Before long, he removed the cloak on his own.

The story has endured because its lesson reaches far beyond weather: force often creates resistance, while warmth can create openness.

We see echoes of that in care. Bodies soften when they feel safe. People open when they feel respected. Change is often more sustainable when it is invited rather than pushed.

Gentleness is not weakness. Sometimes it is the more powerful force.
